Chelsea players launch Nike Football Camps with Chelsea FC Foundation

We’re excited to announce our new camps in association with Chelsea FC Foundation. To celebrate, last week we invited Fran Kirby and Ruben Loftus-Cheek to join us for an official launch of the new programme at Chelsea FC’s Training Centre in Cobham.

The new residential Nike Football Camps with Chelsea FC Foundation will start in summer 2019 and are available to 10-17 year olds. We have programmes for boys, girls and goalkeepers. As always, there are also optional English lessons for international players.

We were excited to be joined at the launch day by Chelsea players Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Fran Kirby, who took time out of their busy training schedules to train with some young players. Both recent key members for their respective Chelsea and England teams, Kirby and Loftus-Cheek recognise the value of motivating young football players to work hard, learn from their coaches and above all, enjoy their training. Ruben Loftus-Cheek joined the boys coaching session, sharing his knowledge and inspiring the young players while Fran Kirby spent some time with the girls, advising them on how to effectively prepare for training and games. At the heart of her message to young players was to always work hard and enjoy every moment on the pitch.

Our new Nike Football Camps with Chelsea FC Foundation will develop players both on and off the pitch in an international camp environment. Players who want to improve their English can combine English lessons with football training, while workshops and seminars from qualified sports scientists and Chelsea FC experts provide a real insight in to life as a young professional at Chelsea FC.

Each week players will visit the Chelsea FC Training Centre at Cobham where they will gain a deeper insight into the life of professional Chelsea players in practical training sessions and workshops. The camp ends with a trip to Stamford Bridge Stadium, home of Chelsea FC, for a tour of the stadium and museum as well as a special prize-giving ceremony.

The camp is based at Charterhouse School, a leading English private school with a rich football history. Charterhouse pupils have gone on to play football internationally, and the school was even involved in the development of rules of the modern game. Charterhouse’s inspiring history and impressive facilities provides the perfect setting for players to train with Chelsea FC Foundation coaches. Our English curriculum is uniquely aligned with the football coaching programme to maximise learning over a short period of time. After years of experience and research, we have found that rooting English learning in topics that spark the interest of learners, such as their love of sport, engages them more and accelerates their learning during the camp. In addition, players are immersed in an English-speaking environment throughout the camp, meaning English learning happens not only in the classroom but throughout the camp experience.

Chelsea FC Foundation is renowned for its outstanding football development programmes across the world and we’re excited to be working together to create this new football programme for young international players. According to the British Council, around 500,000 people travel to the UK each year to learn English. At Nike Sports Camps we recognise the power of sport to inspire the next generation of young people not only to stay active, fit and healthy, but also to promote the importance of education in achieving your goals. Players on our camps gain new skills, confidence and create lasting friendships with other young players from across the world in a truly unforgettable experience.
